PERGOLA ACTUATOR TECHNOLOGY

The T-Motion PA-10 Pergola Actuator

Every motorized louvered pergola depends on one important component: the linear actuator that drives the roof blades open and closed. The T-Motion PA-10 is a waterproof, heavy-duty actuator engineered for permanent outdoor pergola use.

T-Motion PA-10 pergola actuator

Why the PA-10 Matters

The PA-10 delivers strong, smooth roof movement for motorized louvered pergolas. It provides 450 lbs of dynamic and static force, a faster full-load speed of 0.16 inches per second, and a 20% duty cycle for more headroom during repeated daily use.

Its IP68M / IP69K protection rating makes it suitable for real outdoor exposure, including rain, snow, freeze-thaw cycles, rooftop conditions, and direct hose-down cleaning.

Understanding IP68M / IP69K Protection

Ingress protection ratings explain how sealed a component is against solids and liquids. IP68 means the actuator housing is dust-tight and rated for continuous submersion deeper than one meter.

In the PA-10’s case, the unit is rated up to 3 meters indefinitely. The added “M” indicates the actuator has been tested while moving under water. IP69K is an even stricter rating for resistance to high-pressure and high-temperature water jets.

Built for Outdoor Pergolas

Outdoor pergolas face real weather exposure over years of use. The PA-10 is designed to continue operating through rain, snow, dust, moisture, and direct cleaning conditions.

Smooth Roof Articulation

With 450 lbs of force and 0.16 in/sec full-load speed, the actuator supports smoother and quicker louver movement for modern motorized pergola roofs.

Custom Stroke Lengths

Standard stroke options range from 2" to 36". For non-standard pergola geometries, custom stroke lengths can be specified based on louver dimensions and opening angle.

Project-Specific Actuator Sizing

Pergola actuator selection should match the system design. Stroke length, louver dimensions, opening angle, and drive linkage geometry should be reviewed so the actuator fits the pergola system instead of forcing the system to match a stock component.

SOMFY RTS REMOTE CONTROLS

Two Smart Control Options for Motorized Pergolas

Somfy offers two residential remote options for pergola systems: a simple button-only transmitter for everyday manual control, and a programmable LCD timer remote for automated routines.

Which One for Your Pergola?

If you only want to extend the awning when you sit down and retract it when you are done, the Situo 1 RTS Pure is the simple choice. It is easy to use and works well as a table remote or wall-mounted control.

The Telis 1 Chronis RTS is better when you want the system to operate on a schedule, automate screen movement, or create vacation-style random timing while you are away.

Compatibility & Pairing

Both remotes use Somfy RTS 433.42 MHz protocol and work with RTS-compatible motors, including Altus 50 RTS tubular motors for pergola awnings and screens.

A single motor can be paired to multiple remotes, so homeowners can use a timer remote for scheduled operation and a handheld remote for manual overrides.

Why the Altus 50 RTS?

The Altus 50 RTS pairs reliable torque delivery with an installer-friendly wireless protocol. Limits can be set remotely with a transmitter, meaning fewer manual adjustments and a cleaner installation process.

The built-in “my” position allows homeowners to save their favorite shade or screen position and recall it with one button press.

IP44 Installation Notes

The Altus 50 RTS is rated IP44, meaning it is protected from splashing water when installed properly inside a protected housing.

For direct outdoor exposure or louver rotation, a sealed actuator such as the T-Motion PA-10 with IP68M / IP69K protection is the better choice.
